  1 Jul 1610  CEGalileo Galilei discovers the first 3 Jupiter satellites, Io, Europa & Ganymede.
    1610  CEGerman astronomer Simon Marius first discovers the Jupiter moons, but does not officially report it, Galileo does on 1 July 1610.
    1610  CEGalileo Galilei discovers Callisto, the fourth satellite of Jupiter.
    1626  CEGodfried Wendilin verified Kepler's laws for moons of Jupiter.
    1630  CEItalian Catholic Jesuit Niccolo Zucchi was the first to see 2 belts on Jupiter surface and one of the first to observe some spots
    1664  CERobert Hooke observes the great red spot of Jupiter

 18 Oct 1989  CEThe US space shuttle missiion, STS-29, Atlantis, launches on a five-day mission that included deployment of the Galileo space probe on a course for Jupiter.
  6 Oct 1990  CEThe spacecraft Ulysses was launched. It was to fly to Jupiter and then on to the polar orbit of the Sun.
  8 Feb 1992  CEThe US/European Ulysses spacecraft perfoms Jupiter fly-by.
    1995  CEGalileo arrives on Jupiter
 24 Aug 2006  CEThe "Planet Definition" Resolution was put to the 2006 General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union. the outcome decided the defintiion of what objects in the Solar System should be classified as "Planets". Pluto looses its status as a Planet retuning the total number of "Planets" in our solar system to eight.
