    1501  CEMichelangelo returned to his native Florence to begin work (1501-1504) on his statue 'David'.
    1506  CEThe Laocoon sculpture was unearthed in Rome. It served as a peg for Goethe's aesthetic theories. It later inspired Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, 18th century German dramatist and critic, to write one of the greatest essays ever written on a work of ancient art.
    1519  CEA mass-production technique for casting brass objects was used in Italy.
    1524  CEGiambologna (1524-1608), a sculptor from Florence, was born.
    1529  CEGiambologna (1529-1608), a Florentine sculptor, was born. A biography was written by Baldinucci.
